BBC - BBC Two Programmes - Rev, Episode 5

WATCH

Synopsis

Meet the Rev Adam Smallbone. He is a Church of England vicar, newly promoted from a sleepy rural parish to the inner-city world of St Saviour's in east London. It is a world he has little experience of, and it shows. It is an incredibly difficult job being a good, modern, city vicar. Equally, it is a very hard job being married to one. Alex, Adam's long-suffering wife, does her best to support him, but she has her own career as a solicitor to worry about. Plus she is no one's idea of a conventional vicar's wife. Every day throws up a moral conflict. All are welcome at St Saviour's and Adam can't turn any of them away, even if they are clearly lying or just plain annoying. Tired of feeling excluded and derided by the rest of society, Adam is thrilled to meet Leon who is keen to get married at St Saviour’s. Leon sees past the dog collar and a friendship develops, with the pair sharing pints in the local pub and even jogging together. But the bromance comes to a crashing halt at an embarrassing vicarage dinner party when Adam discovers that his wife, Alex, went to college with Leon – and that they had done something naughty in a rather surprising place.

Adam succumbs to envy when he hears an old rival on Thought for the Day. But his own attempts to make a career of his vocation spectacularly backfire. An ill-advised comment on the One Show about homosexuality within the church results in orders from the Archdeacon to take media instruction from the very vicar Adam was trying to outdo. And while Adam neglects his pastoral duties in favour of climbing the greasy pole, Colin looks for meaning outside of St Saviour's and decides to dabble in the Rastafari religion.

Synopsis

Adult multi-species puppet comedy about five urban animals who hang out together in the back yard of an inner city pub. Starring Nelson, a metrosexual fox; Destiny, a pretentious pedigree It-bitch; Marion, a freshly-neutered wannabe tomcat; Kali, a deeply cynical pigeon; and Vince, the neighbourhood sociopath. BBC's Springwatch comes filming to the Isle of Dogs and Nelson is horrified to discover all the animals are in fact actors. But when he discovers that Destiny loves the show, he seizes the chance to impress her by auditioning for a part. Marion falls for the beautiful Lollipop. The trouble is, Lollipop is only three weeks and six days old and, as everyone but Marion knows, the legal age for dating is not three weeks, it's four weeks. All Marion has to do is stay alive for one more day so that Lollipop can be his soulmate. Which should be easy, a cat having nine lives. Out on a walk in the park, Destiny meets a guide dog and decides that guiding is for her, purely because she likes the idea of being in control. However, she quickly discovers that guiding has its downside. It's time for her to find someone else to do her work for her - Nelson. Kali reveals that she used to nest in Amy Winehouse's hair. Created by Adam Miller, developed by Jon Brown, Adam Miller and Daniel Peak, written by Jon Brown and Daniel Peak, and featuring the voices of Rufus Jones, Lucy Montgomery, Dan Tetsell, Katy Brand, Paul Kaye and Ruth Bratt. But the sudden influx of worshippers isn't down to word getting out about his wonderful sermons; there's a rumour going round that the local church school is about to get a great Ofsted report. Faced with a bunch of hypocritical parents desperately vying for his attention in the hope he'll recommend their child, Adam is tempted to trade a school place for the expensive restoration of a broken stained-glass window.

However, things don't go to plan; the riot team are hugely outnumbered, and in the chaos of the retreat Sgt Viv James is left behind. The team gain access to the prison CCTV and Alex tries to negotiate with the leader of the revolt, Jason Sachs. But her pleas fall on deaf ears, and time seems to be running out fast for Viv. DI Ray Carling and DC Chris Skelton are tasked with bringing in a prisoner who managed to escape in all the commotion, Paul Thordy. However, during the interrogation, Alex is shocked to the core when he claims to be someone she knows - someone from her past. Meanwhile, when Sachs asks for the press to be allowed into the prison it gives Gene the chance to send in Chris and Ray undercover; but Sachs is no fool, and soon realises they are undercover officers, leaving the pair in mortal danger. Alex then makes a shocking discovery, and as Viv, Chris and Ray's lives hang in the balance she has to put her differences with Gene aside to try and save the lives of their team.

Synopsis

When DCI Gene Hunt's former Manchester colleagues, DCI Litton and DI Bevan, turn up on his patch he immediately smells a rat. They're in pursuit of northern comic Frank Hardwick who's wanted for stealing 2,000 pounds from the Police Widows Fund. However, their desperation to track him down leaves Gene and DI Alex Drake suspicious of their real motive. Litton and Bevan quickly get their feet under the table at CID when DCI Jim Keats offers them the full co-operation of the team and DI Ray Carling reminisces with them about the good old days. In a show of machismo it soon becomes a race between Gene and Litton to get to Frank first. Gene is quick to resort to underhand tactics and in a desperate bid to bring him in he attempts to plant stolen porn videos on him via lady of the night, Gloria. When interrogating Frank, Alex discovers he's terrified of someone at the station and it seems there is more to this case than meets the eye. The team need to bring the corrupt cop down and it soon becomes apparent that Frank's adversary may be smarter than anticipated. Meanwhile, Alex takes advantage of having some of Gene's old Manchester colleagues around and takes the opportunity to delve deeper into the disappearance of Sam Tyler.

Synopsis

DCI Gene Hunt and his team, DI Alex Drake, DI Ray Carling and DC Chris Skelton, are hot on the tail of a van they believe contains a large amount of heroin. When the Quattro blocks the van's escape route, the team are faced with a woman brandishing a sawn-off shotgun, but bullish Gene shows no fear and heads straight over to take on the female blagger. However, things suddenly take a strange turn when Gene seems to let her escape. It transpires that the woman is an undercover police officer, and Gene is not happy that an operation is taking place on his patch. DCI Jim Keats is quick to shed some light on the situation; Louise Gardner from Hanfield police station has infiltrated the Staffords, a notorious crime family who Gene shares some history with. Gene is determined to take over the op, but in no time at all he manages to blow Louise's cover. Jim is not happy, and the situation is made worse when Louise turns up black and blue at CID. With Louise under the protection of Gene and CID, they have to work fast to stop Daniel Stafford getting his latest lot of heroin on to the streets. As Gene and Alex close in on the Staffords, something is not quite right; some of Louise's reports are missing and it looks as if someone on the inside is bending the rules to help keep the Staffords on the streets. Meanwhile, the ghostly police constable with the 6-6-20 epaulette number is still haunting Alex, and she's becoming more convinced he's the key to getting home.

WATCH

Synopsis

It's the run up to the 1983 General Election and pressure is mounting on DCI Gene Hunt and his team as they investigate a series of politically motivated arson attacks. A fire at an army barracks is soon followed by another more serious blaze at a Polling Station. As CID turn up to investigate, a quiet word from DCI Jim Keats in DI Ray Carling's ear leads to the detective risking his life by running into the burning building to save a cleaner who is trapped. However, Ray's heroic intentions are short-lived as he is soon trapped too. Fireman Andy Smith saves the pair and the usually macho Ray is overcome with gratitude. As the arson investigation continues, Ray is devastated when an eye-witness identifies Andy as their prime suspect. As the team work on the case they discover that Andy is an army veteran who served in the Falklands; a war that changed him beyond recognition. However, when another fire with the same MO happens whilst Andy is still in police custody, Gene has no choice but to let him go - despite not being a hundred percent convinced of his innocence. Meanwhile, DI Alex Drake is still being haunted by the police officer with the 6-6-20 epaulette numbers and is struggling to work out why he keeps visiting her.
